Windows Hello Pin Disable Guide

🔐 How to Disable Windows Hello PIN (Windows 10 / 11)

If you're planning to change BIOS security settings like Secure Boot, TPM, or Virtualization, you should remove your Windows Hello PIN first. The PIN is tied to your system’s security hardware, and changing those settings can break PIN login.


1️⃣ Open Windows Settings

  1. Click the Start Menu

  2. Click the ⚙️ Settings icon

Or press:


2️⃣ Go to Accounts

Inside Settings:

  1. Click Accounts

This section manages your login methods.


3️⃣ Open Sign-in Options

  1. Select Sign-in options

Here you’ll see login methods such as:

  • Windows Hello Face

  • Windows Hello Fingerprint

  • Windows Hello PIN


4️⃣ If “Remove PIN” Is Greyed Out (Important)

Sometimes the Remove PIN button is greyed out. This happens when Windows requires Hello authentication.

You must disable this first.

Turn OFF this setting:

After turning it OFF:

⚠️ Important step

You must:

  1. Leave the Sign-in Options page

  2. Go to another Settings page (like Accounts)

  3. Then go back into Sign-in Options

Only after doing this will the Remove PIN button become clickable.

This small refresh step is required or the button will stay greyed out.


5️⃣ Remove the Windows Hello PIN

  1. Click Windows Hello PIN

  2. Click Remove

  3. Click Remove again to confirm

  4. Enter your Windows account password

Your Windows Hello PIN will now be disabled.


✅ After Removing the PIN

Your PC will now sign in using:

  • Account password

  • Or other methods you enable later

This prevents login issues when changing BIOS security features like:

  • Secure Boot

  • TPM / fTPM

  • Virtualization (SVM / VT-x)

  • VBS / Hyper-V
